Laois County Council has been called to install traffic calming measures on Jessop Street in Portlaoise.

Councillor Paddy Buggy raised the issue of speeding on the road at the Portlaoise MD meeting on Wednesday, 19 November.

He told the council that residents on the street brought the issue of cars speeding at night time to his attention. Cllr Buggy requested that some measures be taken by the council in the near future to alleviate the problem.

Cllr Tommy Mulligan supported the motion, saying there is a problem with speeding on that street and that "boy-racers seem to be coming back to our streets and our towns."

The council said the road will be examined for traffic calming measures as part of the URDF Project works around Portlaoise town centre.
