Portlaoise town centre and surrounding areas has lost its water supply today, after a major water mains burst.

The major water mains burst has occurred on the James Fintan Lalor Avenue in Portlaoise. 

The water outage was not from planned works.

There is disruption to the water supply in Portlaoise and the surrounding areas, particularly the town centre, for today Friday November 17.

Repair works are currently underway.

"It is expected that repairs will be completed  by 8pm this evening. As soon as the repair is complete the water supply will return to customers," Irish Water has stated.

It apologies for the inconvenience.

"Irish Water and Laois County Council apologise to customer for any inconvenience caused as a result of the burst water main and wish to reassure customers we are working to restore the water supply as quickly as possible."
