Bollards needed in Laois town to prevent people from blocking paths

Pedestrian street bollards are needed in a Laois town according to Cllr James Kelly.

The junction of Shannon Street and Wallace Street in Mountrath needs bollards to prevent people from parking cars where people need to walk on the path.

Cllr Kelly passed a notice of motion at the February Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal District meeting.

He said that the parking on the pedestrian area is particularly causing difficulty for wheelchair users and people with disabilities or buggies as they are forced out onto the road to get around cars when walking along the path.

“It is a small job that will just take around four bollards,” he said.

Laois County Council said it will examine the situation and make necessary provision for bollards as necessary.
