The layout of the new housing at Green Mill Lane, Portlaoise.
A plan to build 49 houses next to a Dunnes Stores supermarket in Portlaoise has been approved.
Laois County Council has given the green light to the extra houses off Green Mill Lane, to applicant John Fingleton.
The development includes 15 terraced two-storey houses, one with four bedrooms and all the others with three bedrooms.
Most of the homes are apartments, with 34 two-bedroom apartments to be arranged in four 2-storey blocks.
One block will have 12, two will have 8 apartments each and a fourth will have six.
The plan was first lodged in November 2022, but Laois County Council had requested further information.
They had concerns related to the durability of the finishes of render, brick and stone and requested removal of timber features for the same reason. They asked to increase the height of a boundary wall to Green Mill Lane to 1.2m, to explore additional pedestrian pathways, add and improve bin storage facilities, increase apartment storage areas, increase garden sizes, amend road and drainage designs.
The applicant was also told to do an archeological survey as the site is large and near to a recorded monument.
