Laois rent prises soar in latest report

This latest Daft.ie Rental Report shows that the average price of rent in Laois is €1,531 a month.

This shows an increase of 3.7% since February 2024.

"Once again, rents are rising almost everywhere in the country. Over the course of 2024, rents rose in 52 of the 54 markets covered in the country. This makes it the fourth year in a row – and tenth in the last 11 years – where at least 50 markets of the 54 covered saw rents rise.

We are, in other words, over a decade into a rental crisis and have very little to suggest that it will end any time soon. The construction of new rental homes in Dublin surged in 2022 and 2023, keeping rental inflation down there. But since, the rate of new building has fallen back and looks set to fall further in 2025," the report said.

In Leinster, market rents fell by 1.7% on average in the final quarter of 2024, ending a run of 17 quarters of rising rents.

Despite the fall, market rents in Leinster rose by 5% during 2024, compared to 9% in 2023 and 13% in 2022.

Availability of properties in Leinster is down 25%.

In 2024, there were fewer than 450 homes available to rent in Leinster on February 1st, down 25% on the same date a year previously and about half the 2015-2019 average.

Room rents went up by 2%.
The cost of renting a room in Leinster was roughly 1.9% higher on average in the final quarter of 2024 than a year earlier.

The price of rent for a single bedroom in Leinster is as follows:
