Laois County Council is increasing its offering of reasonably priced serviced individual housing property sites for people to buy and build their own homes.
Earlier this summer, the council agreed to sell four serviced sites on the Derry Road, Durrow to buyers. Each was sold for €40,000. They ranged in size from 0.05 hectares (0.124 acres) to 0.068 hectares (0.168 acre). Two of the buyers were from Abbeyleix, one from Rathdowney and one from Kilkenny.
The CEO Michael Rainey confirmed at a recent council meeting that 11 further sites are under consideration for them to buy, service and then sell on to the public.

“Really strong performance across all our housing titles. In particular the serviced sites that were approved for disposal. There’s another 11 sites under consideration. So there is a pipeline of serviced sites coming through this council, which is really good to see,” Mr Rainey said.
Nine of the sites being considered are in Castletown. The final two are in Ballyroan village.
