'A great neighbour and friend' - Tributes paid to 91-year-old Laois great-grandmother

Tributes have been paid after the sad passing of a 91-year-old Laois woman.

Bernadette (Ber) Smeaton (née Hennessy), 17 O'Daly Terrace, Rathdowney, Co. Laois, December 4th. 2024, passed away peacefully at the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise, surrounded by her loving family in her 91st year.

Ber is predeceased by her husband Billy, daughter Norrie, her parents, sisters Annie, Kathleen, May and Una and brothers Tommy, Sean and Joseph.

She will be "sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family, sons Terry and Liam, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and a wide circle of friends," reads her death notice on RIP.ie. 

She will be reposing at O'Sullivan's funeral home, Rathdowney on Friday, December 6 from 5pm. Her Funeral Mass will take place at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Rathdowney, at 2pm, with interment afterwards in Bealady Cemetery. 

Tributes have been paid on RIP.ie with one friend saying: "Our deepest sympathies to Terry, Liam and the Smeaton family at this very sad time. She was a great neighbour and friend. Rest in peace Ber."
