Members of the Cumann Gaelach (Irish Society) at Dunamase College in Portlaoise have been linking up with other secondary schools in the county to take part in ‘Buail agus Siúil’, a walk and talk initiative to promote the Irish language.

The Dunamase College students recently hosted a ‘Buail agus Siúil’  with students from Ratheniska NS and enjoyed a stroll around Carrigmeal Woods while using their Gaeilge to complete an Irish themed treasure hunt.

The Cumann Gaelach look forward to hosting their next ‘Buail agus Siúil’ with students from Gaelscoil Phort Laoise as part of their Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Week) activities.

The Cumann Gaelach will be hosting a ‘PopUp Gaeltacht’ as part of their Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations. Members of the community are invited to attend the event which takes place Friday, March 8 from 11am to 12.30pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to celebrate the Irish language and culture through using their Gaeilge and cúpla focal’ and enjoy some ceol and ‘céilí’ dancing.

Last year as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, the Cumann Gaelach visited local primary schools to do some Irish dancing - such as the Walls of Limerick and the Dreoilín.

“The students loved their experience of Irish dancing and celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge,” said a spokesperson for the school.

“The Cumann Gaelach look forward to visiting the schools again this year and few more which are starting the tradition.”
