Laois schoolchildren send Christmas shoeboxes with love

Children in Scoil Mhuire NS, Abbeyleix sent off 95 shoeboxes this week, packed with essentials and treats, for poor children around the world.

The boxes were collected from the school by local rep Mary Siney to children all around the world as part of the Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal.

The children formed a happy little human conveyance line from the classroom right out to Ms Siney’s car.

The principal is Margaret Slevin.

“We are delighted to participate in this most worthy Appeal. Children helping children. Second Class students were on hand to help load all the boxes,” she said.

Team Hope’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal is an annual campaign that delivers gifts straight into the hands of children affected by poverty. Often these shoebox gifts are the only gift that a child will receive at Christmas. Since 2010, they have delivered over 2.1 million Shoebox gifts to vulnerable children across the world.

Last year, Irish people sent 178,639 Christmas Shoebox gifts to children across 13 countries in Eastern Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The collections are finished for this year but online boxes can still be created by donating €20, see teamhope.ie
