Celebrate Literature and Music at the Leaves Festival 2023 across Laois from Nov 8th - 11th
If your heart beats for literature and music, the Leaves Festival is the place to be this November.
From the 8th to the 11th, County Laois transforms into a hub of creativity, celebrating the arts in all their glory.
The autumnal season provides the perfect backdrop for this much loved annual festival of award winning and local authors. With a diverse lineup of events, workshops, and performances, this festival offers something unique.
The Leaves Festival is thrilled to welcome Aingeala Flannery, the award-winning author of ‘The Amusements,’ as its writer in residence.
Aingeala’s novel, not only a critical success, has also garnered the prestigious John McGahern Prize and the Kerry Group Novel of the Year Award. As part of the festival, ‘The Amusements’ has been chosen for the One-County-One-Book initiative, aiming to connect readers across Laois.
With an agenda packed full of workshops, readings, and live performances, the Leaves Festival ensures a worthwhile experience for literature enthusiasts and music lovers alike.
Esteemed author Anne Enright, a Man Booker Prize winner, will engage in a conversation alongside Aingeala, with acclaimed journalist Alex Clark steering the dialogue.
The festival’s richness is further enhanced by a crime writing evening featuring John Banville and Andrea Carter in the atmospheric setting of St. Peter’s Church of Ireland in Portlaoise, a special evening with Donal Ryan and Ultan Conlon, and an appearance by the bestselling novelist Emily Hourican, with her latest work ‘An Invitation to the Kennedys.’
In addition to the literary events, music will flow through the various venues with performances by Ultan Conlon, Cathal Crowley, Molly Donnery, and Michelle Mulcahy.
The festival also introduces an innovative comic book writing workshop with Colin O’Mahony across two events and a spoken word and music event that celebrates the theme of ‘Stand By Me’, hosted by local Ann Marie Kelly.
The Leaves Festival is more than just an event; it's a celebration of culture, creativity, and community across the county. Set against the picturesque backdrop of various Laois locations, the festival invites everyone – readers, writers, music enthusiasts, and curious minds – to come together.
