The Laois Minor Ladies have qualified for the semi-finals of the Leinster ‘B’ Championship following Wexford’s victory over Longford in Taghmon on Sunday.
The Laois Minor ladies fell to Westmeath in Round 3 of the Championship on Saturday with a four-point defeat in Timahoe, but with Sunday’s result between Wexford and Longford falling in their favour they now get their place in the semi-finals with a another meeting with Westmeath on the cards.
Tom McKittrick’s side lost their opening round clash at home to Longford conceding seven goals in total, five of which came in the closing half as they lost out by four points in the end. They followed with a good performance in the next round to secure a nine-point win in a nine-goal thriller against Wexford last month. And while they lost on Saturday to Westmeath, they were still likely to go through to semi-final stage but awaited the result of the Wexford v Longford game - with Wexford’s victory meaning Laois go through to the semi-finals.
Laois will now face Westmeath for the second time in a space of two weeks when they meet in the semi-final on Saturday 27th April in Westmeath, while Offaly and Longford will battle it out in the other semi-final.
