Ireland Weather: Temperatures set to rise on Monday but there is a sting in the tail

Ireland Weather: Met Eireann issues thunderstorm warning for parts of Ireland with warning of spot flooding

Met Éireann is warning that Laois could be hit by thunder, lightning and flooding with motorists put on notice the weather  could make roads hazardous.

The forecaster has issued a thunderstorm warning for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wicklow, Tipperary from noon until 8pm, Monday, May 8.

The alert says the potential impacts will be spot flooding and hazardous driving conditions.

The Leinster forecast for Monday, says there will be scattered showers and sunny spells in the morning. In the late afternoon and early evening, the showers are expected to become more frequent and to turn heavy and thundery, with a risk of spot flooding. Highest temperatures of 18 to 20 degrees, in moderate south to southwest breezes.

The forecaster says the showers will become isolated Monday night, mainly affecting western areas. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees in a light southwesterly breeze. MORE BELOW TWEET.

National Forecast issued at 2.57 on Sunday, May 7 by Met Éireann

Monday: Starting out mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Sunny spells will develop as the day goes on and the showers will become more widespread and heavy during the afternoon. Some thundery downpours will occur, especially in the east and south, bringing a risk of spot flooding. Highest temperatures will range 14 to 21 degrees, coolest in the Atlantic coastal fringes. Light to moderate southwest breezes.

Tuesday: Sunny spells and showers, some heavy in the afternoon, becoming cloudier later in the day with rain along the west coast. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees in a light to moderate southwesterly wind.

A mostly cloudy night with outbreaks of rain extending eastwards. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees with a light to moderate southwest to west wind.

Wednesday: Rain clearing to showers on Wednesday. Highest temperatures of 14 or 15 degrees in a moderate to fresh westerly breeze.

Thursday: Sunshine showers once again as winds become northwesterly. Highest temperatures 14 to 16 degrees in those moderate to fresh northwest winds.

Further outlook: Current indications suggest mainly dry weather with some sunshine on Friday, with a spell of rain likely for Saturday.
