Met Éireann is warning of heavy rain with isolated thunderstorms that may cause disruption and localised flooding
New weather warnings have been issued for Laois ahead of the arrival of Storm Bert this weekend.
A status yellow warning for low temperatures and ice has been extended until 12pm on Friday. Met Éireann has warned of hazardous conditions on roads and paths and some travel disruption in the county.
Meanwhile Storm Bert will bring very strong southeast to south winds coupled with heavy rain. A status yellow wind and rain warning will be in place in Laois from 10pm on Friday to 12pm on Saturday. Possible impacts include localised flooding and travel disruption.
"This weekend, Storm Bert will move close to Ireland, displacing the recent cold Artic airmass. Very strong winds and heavy rain will track northeastwards over the country on Friday night with warnings already in places," said a Met Éireann spokesperson.
"Storm Bert will continue to dominate our weather through the weekend and into early next week and further warnings will be issued for this event."
