Storm Bram is ripping across Laois and Ireland, causing power outages to hundreds of homes.

A Met Éireann Status Orange wind warning is in effect until 7pm tonight in Laois and across the country.

Abbeyleix and Timahoe have suffered power outages.

In Timahoe, this dramatic image shows how a tree has cut power supply by falling on the power line.

ESB Networks say that 806 customers are affected in the Abbeyleix area. They expect to restore power by 1.30pm today, with ESB and treeworks crews working on site.

There are 11 customers affected in the rural area in Timahoe. Electricity there is expected to be restored by 1.45pm.

Laois is not being hit as hard as more southern areas of Ireland so far, as the ESB Powercheck map shows, with some 20,000 customers out of power.

There is also a report of trees down on the Ballacolla Road to Abbeyleix.
