Laois has got many young hidden talented performers and Youthwork Ireland Laois is determined to get them up on the stage.
The organisation is holding its next monthly Laois Youth Artistic Showcase on Friday October 28 at 7pm, at Portlaoise Youth Café.
All young performers, be their talents lie in music, drama, poetry, comedy or art, are invited to take part.
Stefan Donovan is a Tús youth worker at the centre.
“These nights are all about helping young performers become comfortable in front of a crowd, so they can gain confidence,” he said.
Last month featured four acts, and such was the audience reaction that three of them gained the confidence to sign up for the Irish Youth Music Awards.
They are Anna Ryan, Eoin and Niamh O’Sullivan, and Emily Brophy, who is returning again to perform at the next show.
Portlaoise Youth Café has a stage, a PA system and even some spare guitars and pianos for the performers.
“We can accommodate bigger groups in the room off the stage, everything is welcome. Our next show already has drama, comedy and animation, as well as singer Cian McGearailt,” said Stefan.
“If you want to sign up, just pop in and give your details. Family and friends are all welcome to come along on the night for support,” he said.
The shows take place on the last Friday of every month. New members are welcome to join Portlaoise Youth Café on the night or indeed any Friday evening.
The club, above Subway on JFL Avenue, is open for junior members from 3 to 5pm on Fridays, and seniors from 5 to 7pm.
