A sheep dip filled with water on public common land in Laois is "very dangerous" to children.
A Laois councillor has asked Laois County Council to maintain the public sheep dip facility in The Heath.
"The dip itself is full of water and would be a very dangerous area for children to explore," Cllr PJ Kelly says.
He tabled a motion to the March meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
However it turns out that the sheep dip itself is owned privately.
Laois County Council in reply said they would be in contact with the owner of the property where the dip is located.
Cllr Kelly confirmed progress in contacting the owner.
"We spoke last week. The mystery is solved to the ownership. I won't name them to be fair. People on The Heath were of the opinion that it was owned by Laois County Council.
"It was built in 1973 to facilitate The Heath commonage ground where sheep roam wild. I appreciate your work to contact the owner," Cllr Kelly said.
