"The organisers of Daffodil Day in Mountmellick would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all those involved in making Daffodil Day such a tremendous success on the 24th of March.

"We are extremely grateful to those who generously donated daffodils and who contributed to our collections, to Pat and Mary Culleton for providing us with the use of his premises for the day, to Denis Daly and of course our wonderful volunteers who selflessly give us their time every year to make Daffodil Day a continued and overwhelming success.

"A total of €10,100 was raised in Mountmellick, all of which will go directly to the Irish Cancer Society for use in their numerous projects including research, assisting and caring for people living with cancer and their families etc.

"Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir," they say.

On the same week, the town's residents had donated over €15,000 to the Laura Lynn children's hospice, in fundraisers organised by Mountmellick Community School in memory of teenager Eoin Coss. Read above.
