The family of a beloved Laois man who died suddenly on Christmas Day in 2021, has climbed a mountain in his honour.
On Saturday April 8, Canice Sheeran along with members of the Kavanagh family, Ballymeelish and some friends climbed the 480m Devils Bit in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation.
Canice organised the climb and a fundraiser to go with it, in memory of his brother in-law, the late Abe Kavanagh, who passed away following a sudden heart attack on Christmas Day 2021.

Abe was reknowned as a gentleman, a loving family man, hard worker and a fantastic friend to all with whom he came in contact. Abe’s family got on board along with their Uncle Canice and several friends joined the climb also.
Saturday 8th April was chosen for the climb, as it is Abe’s birthday.

The venture has been an outstanding success.
Canice set an initial target of €3000; however it has now exceeded €5000 with money still being donated.
"This is a fitting tribute to the great character Abe was, and is also serving to raise an awareness of the Irish Heart Foundation in the battle against heart disease and stroke," Canice said.
