Philip Lalor with his daughter Lisa and sister Margaret
A Laois family are undertaking a charity skydive next month to raise funds for the Oesophageal Cancer Fund.
Philip Lalor, from Mountrath, was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer nine years ago but thanks to early diagnosis he received successful treatment and has since recovered.
To raise awareness Philip, his daughter Lisa and sister Margaret will be doing a skydive on June 15.
The family have already more than doubled their fundraising target and have raised almost €5,500 online to date.
"We will be forever grateful for Professor Reynolds and his team in St. James' Hospital, Dublin for everything they have done for dad," said Lisa.
"The Oesophageal Cancer Foundation carry out an annual lollipop day across Ireland to raise awareness and funds for Oesophageal cancer research. Since dad's diagnosis my family and I have participated in this annual event.
"This year I am turning 30 and I wanted to do something a little different to try raise even more awareness. On Saturday 15th June my dad, my auntie Margaret and I will be doing a skydive."
Lisa said the aim is to raise funds that will go towards continuing research and spreading awareness of oesophageal cancer.
