This year's Rainbow Day, an annual fundraiser for Laois Offaly Families For Autism (LOFFA), has raised a staggering €35,000.
LOFFA Chairperson Breda Murray revealed the figure this week after the successful event was held at the end of April.
"We now have 170 families that we support and we thank each and every one of the schools, preschools, crèches and businesses who participated in Rainbow Day 2024," said Breda.
"Special mention to our own members, families and friends for their support of us on Rainbow Day and throughout the year. Every cent of the money raised goes directly back to our members in the form of subsidised events/ family day trips/ workshops/educational training programmes/ guest speakers and subsidised therapies.
"As important to LOFFA as the funds raised is the awareness and acceptance of Autism by the kind people of Laois & Offaly. I would like to sincerely thank our hard working committee. We now have a committee of ten volunteers. The time you give is just amazing, each of you all have a vital role to play and you do it to perfection while holding down jobs and taking care of your own families, thank you. It is a pleasure working alongside you all.
"Support, community, working together….that is what LOFFA is all about."
