Laois celebrations at the SuperValu Tidy Towns national awards ceremony were less muted than in 2023 but the county still left Dublin with gold medal wins.
Abbeyleix relinquished its title of Ireland's Tidiest Town to Ballincollig in Cork at the event in the capital on November 1 which was attended by a delegation from Laois.
While the Abbeyleix didn't reach the dizzy heights of 2024, its Tidy Towns committee maintained their high standards as proven by winning first place in the Laois section of the awards.
It was a good year for neighbouring Durrow which won second place in the county section while also taking home a silver medal.
It was a good year for Portlaoise Tidy Towns. Apart from winning a gold medal and coming third in the county section, the Committee was presented with a Tree Project Award for its tree planting initiative which has seen 40,000 trees planted around the county town since 2019. This has been supported by Laois County Council.
The final Laois winner was Killeshin with the committee their winning an Endeavour Award.
