This year's Refugee Week will take place from June 16 to 22, and there is a wide range of events taking place across the country to mark the occasion.

The theme of this year's Refugee Week is 'Community as a Superpower', and Portlaoise library will host a series of community centred events.

On Monday June 16, the library will host a Recipe Exchange with Food Tasting.

From 12pm to 1pm, all are invited to attend and embark on a culinary journey around the world!

"Share your favourite recipes and bring along a sample for others to taste. If you’re interested in being involved, email: portlaoiselibrary@laoiscoco.ie," organisers have said.

Tuesday June 17 will see a talk on how to utilise the library's online services.

From 11am, attendees are invited to discover the wealth of online resources available through Laois Libraries- all free with your library membership.

On Thursday June 19, the library will host a unique 'human library' from 4pm to 6pm.

Here, you are invited to 'discover a story' by engaging in meaningful conversations with individuals in attendance.

You can share your personal stories, breaking down barriers and fostering understanding.

Thursday will also see a rousing performance from the Malva Community Choir.

From 6:15pm to 6:45pm, join the members of the Malva Community Choir for a musical journey that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Ukraine and Ireland, through the power of song.

For the younger ones, there will be a children's craft event on Saturday June 21 at 2:30pm.

Kids can express their creativity by crafting beautiful paper flowers in the colours of their home country’s flag. A fun activity celebrating cultural heritage through art. Booking for this event is required, which can be accessed here.

These events are provided with the support and collaboration of Laois County Council Integration Service.
