Laois tractor and truck run raises incredible money for cancer treatment

The 2025 Fisherstown Tractor and Truck run raises €55, 517 to the Oncology department of St James' Hospital.

An incredible sum of money has been raised by a Laois tractor and truck run, to aid cancer treatments.

A grand total of €55,517 has been presented to the oncology unit at St James' Hospital in Dublin, after hundreds of tractors and trucks took to the Laois roads last July for the popular annual Fisherstown Tractor and Truck Run.

Committee secretary Ciara Noons spoke to the Leinster Express / Laois Live.

"It is our biggest sum raised ever. Last year we reached over €52,00. We are delighted to get to the €55,000, absolutely delighted.

"We were invited to St James' Hospital to see what equipment it will buy. I know that the biggest help will be for surgeons dealing with the head and neck," she explains.

It is a huge community effort to host the giant road run, which this year saw over 360 tractors and 70 lorries drive to Portlaoise and to Ballybrittas. They also had children's entertainment and a night of live music by Laois band Big Generator with a raffle in The Final Furlong pub in Ballybrittas. See photo gallery of the 2025 run.

"It is a huge effort, we start meeting in March or April to plan it. But it's far more than the committee, it's a massive community thing. We have so many volunteers and stewarts helping out," Ciara said.

The good news is the Fisherstown run will be rolling out again in 2026.

"Absolutely, bigger and better. It will be hard to beat this year but the only way is up," Ciara Noons said.

The committee gave a huge thank you on social media.

"A massive thank you to everyone who helped make it happen — from drivers and volunteers to sponsors, supporters, and our amazing local community— we are truly grateful. It's impossible to thank everyone individually for everything you do, but please know that every single effort made a difference. It simply wouldn’t be what it is today without you all.

"Together, we’ve shown the true meaning of community spirit and generosity. Here's to the memories made this year — and to an even bigger and better run in 2026," the Fisherstown run committee said.

The Fishertown Tractor & Truck Run was established in 2008 by local men aiming to raise funds for a local cancer charity. Since its foundation, it has raised over €415,000.
