More volunteers are needed for the Meals on Wheels service
Organisers are hoping to resume Portlaoise’s Meals on Wheels service by the end of this year.
Chairperson Portlaoise Meals on Wheels Committee Teresa McCloskey said: “We are still working extremely hard to get our service off the ground. We have come a long way… we hope to be on the road by Christmas.”
In order to get the service, which had been the largest Meals on Wheels in Laois, back up and running organisers are putting out one last call for volunteers.
The Meals and Wheels service provides warm meals for the elderly and vulnerable who might otherwise go without in Portlaoise. It ceased operating in Portlaoise in June of 2023, leaving between 25 and 27 service users without an alternative provider.
The Meals on Wheels’ service is seen as an essential frontline community service with providers around the country delivering meals to the elderly and vulnerable.
Meals on Wheels is heavily reliant on volunteers to aid in the delivery of the service. Any volunteers who can spare some time to assist this service would be greatly appreciated. Volunteer support is invaluable in ensuring the success of Meals on Wheels.
