Hardworking and dedicated volunteers with community groups, clubs and local organisations around Laois gather next week in Portlaoise for the annual Community & Voluntary Awards.
Laois County Council, in association with Laois Public Participation Network (LPPN) will host the 9th Annual awards in the Midlands Park Hotel on Tuesday, November 20.
The Leinster Express is supporting this year's awards as media partner.
The awards recognise the valuable contribution made by volunteers at both group and individual level in promoting community and voluntary, social inclusion and environmental sectors in their communities.
A total of 38 groups have been nominated across five group categories including Environment, Children and Youth, Arts, Culture and Heritage, Healthy and Active Community and Social Inclusion.
The final category of Unsung Hero will celebrate and honour the great work of individuals across Laois.
The judging was carried out by PPN secretariat members from PPN networks outside of Laois PPN.
The Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council John King commented on the extraordinary work that is quietly taking place in Laois.
“The commitment and dedication of these groups and individuals sets a true example to us all,” said Cllr King.
Pat Somers, Leinster Express Editor, was honoured to support the awards. “The Leinster Express is delighted to acknowledge the work of local volunteers and communities,” he stated.
The Master of Ceremonies on the night will be RTE’s Justin Treacy, a native of Emo.
The event starts at 7.30 with music from Music Generation’s Junior Trad Orchestra with refreshments at 7.45pm and the awards kicking off at 8pm sharp.
