Laois vintage fans go the extra mile for people with blindness of visual impairment

Vintage vehicle fans in a Laois club went the extra mile for people with impaired vision and blindness this year.

The Knock Vintage Club's annual vintage run helped raise funds for the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI). The event raised €1,000 for NCBI services. The committee presented Daniel Dunne with a cheque for the NCBI.

The staff of NCBI and people who use the services say they are humbled and delighted with the energy and generosity of the club and their supporters.

The NCBI say there are 54,810 people with impaired vision in Ireland and of these, more than 950 people live in Laois.

As a charity, NCBI must raise €3 million annually to fund essential services to people who are blind or vision impaired. The majority of people NCBI works with have some remaining vision. The aim is to help them use that vision to read, use technology, get around independently or to manage with the everyday tasks we all take for granted, like cooking and shopping.
