Ladywell
On the Thursday, 15th August last, the Feast of the Assumption and traditional opening day at Ladywell Shrine it would be an understatement to say the weather was merely disagreeable. It not only rained but poured resulting in near monsoon like conditions for over an hour but as was proven by the large attendance of young and old people a tradition cannot be cancelled, particularly a tradition of faith. Mass was celebrated by Bishop Seamus Freeman, Monsignor Michael Ryan PP, Castlecomer; Fr Pat O’Farrell P.P. Lisdowney and Fr. Sean Conlon, Ballinakill. Bishop Freeman commended Ladywell Committee on their recent work in extending the shelter right up to the entrance gate to the shrine area adding it was almost prophetic in view of the day’s weather. Thankfully the sun shone by the end of the ceremony enabling people to leave safely or stay and chat a while with friends, neighbours and those not seen since the last 15th August. The annual novena will commence on the 1st September, details to follow or can be obtained from the Ladywell Committee.
