Members went on a trip to Brú Boru Cultural Centre in Cashel recently and enjoyed a highly entertaining evening with a tour of the exhibition followed by a show of music, dance and song. The evening finished with an informal session in their Teach Cheoil where our musicians joined with other members of the show and audience members. It was agreed that we should do this or similar again as everyone enjoyed the night. Group music practice continues for the Leinster Fleadh in Moate. We are hoping that members will attend the Portlaoise summer session on the Thursday after the Leinster Fleadh. All welcome.

Croagh Patrick fundraiser

Bats Workshop

Irish Wildlife Trust Laois-Offaly Branch have a workshop for those interested in helping with the Daubenton’s Bat Survey, on Wednesday, July 23 at 8pm in the MDA, Mountmellick.

On the night there will be an indoor introduction to the species, survey methods and related info, followed by an outdoor practical site visit (across car park to Owenass River) to put your new skills into practice. Tea/coffee provided. Free training event. More info here:

Cancer Society

The Irish Cancer Society’s Care to Drive Service needs volunteer drivers to drive local patients to and from chemoptherapy in Dublin. Volunteers needed to pick up patients at their homes, drive them to hospital and pick them up later to bring them home. Free to patients and driver expenses covered. Call 01 231 0566 email
