Portlaoise Singers
The Portlaoise singers are resuming rehersals on Monday September 16. This 60 strong choir where new members male and female are now welcome. No musical knowledge is required. Both Cds and music will be supllied. For this year’s Christmas concert the choir will focus on love songs of the past 60 years and beyond. This is the 39th year of the Portlaoise Singers. Portlaoise Comhaltas.
Enrolement for Portlaoise Comhaltas classes will take place on Tuesday Sept 17 7-9pm at new Gaelscoil. Fiddle player and singer Áine McGeeney of the band Goitse will join the teaching panel. The committee plan to offer tuition in the full range of trad instruments with classes from beginner to advanced level for all age groups.
Concert
Naoimh Bríd Ceoltoiri Na nOg Music. Pupils who sat their SCT Music Grade exam will be presented with certificates at an afternoon concert in the Dunamaise Theatre on Saturday, September 14 at 2pm. Cycle from France
Three intrepid Laois people are on course to participate in an exciting cycle challenge from La Rochelle in France all the way back to Portlaoise starting tomorrow, Wednesday, September 11. Mary Callanan, Andrew Cremin and Brian Bonham will spend seven days making their way up the coast of France, in an effort to raise much needed funds for sports and physical activities for people with disabilities in Laois through the Laois Sports Partnership Sports programme ‘SID’ (Sports Inclusion Disability).

Laois 10 km
Run, jog or walk in the Laois 10k for the Carers Association supported by the Leinster Express. Everybody is invited to sign up to the event which takes place on Sunday, September 15. The race starts at the Maldron Hotel at 12 noon. All funds go to delivering support services carers in Laois & Offaly.
