Give Laois GAA hurlers a heroes' homecoming in Portlaoise

Laois won the Joe McDonagh Cup with great display over Carlow in Croke Park
Laois GAA fans are being urged to come out in force to welcome home their hurling heroes to Portlaoise after their big win over Carlow in Croke Park.
The Joe McDonagh Cup champions claimed victory in a tight tussle over their neighbours Carlow on a wet Saturday, June 6 in GAA HQ on a scoreline of 1-27 to 1-18.
There were fantastic scenes of celebration on the field before and after Rosenallis club man and Laois GAA senior hurling captain David Dooley had the honour of climbing the Hogan Stand to lift the Joe McDonagh Cup for the second time.
Laois GAA is now inviting Laois fans to make their way to Portlaoise where they want local people to give the winning team a homecoming to remember at 9 pm at the Midlands Park Hotel.

It was the third year running that Laois had made it to the final of the competition with victory eluding them on both previous occasions. There would be no three in a row loss with Laois in control for most of the game making Carlow pay for their 21 wides.
The turning point came midway through the second half when man of the match Cillian Dunne scored the winning goal that put Laois into an unassailable lead to the chants of Laois Laois Laois ring around Croke Park.
Winning the Joe McDonagh Cup means Laois return to the Senior All-Ireland Hurling Championship in 2027.
