SOSAD Laois branch to benefit from generous donations

Portarlington GAA Club celebrated Christmas with an annual Christmas party that included special guests Santa Claus and The Grinch, in aid of the SOSAD suicide prevention charity which has a Laois branch.  See below photo gallery for full story.

Lexie, Frankie and Danny meet Santa.

This year, like 2024 was held over two evenings to accommodate the many young members of the Laois town's club.

The party is organised by the juvenile committee, who every year host parties for the kids in the club, from nursery right up to U11 age groups, at Halloween and Christmas.

With trees, lights, treats, and gifts, Santa made an appearance to greet and say hello to all the kids and families. The pesky Grinch made an appearance to the delight of the kids but thwarted him from any Christmas thieving.

Anthony Johnston was one of the organisers. He said that they chose SOSAD, who have a Portlaoise counselling centre.

"Our Santa, a big supporter of the charity SOSAD, a local charity supporting mental health and wellness, helps to overcome life's challenges with families around the country. It's a very worthwhile cause that we are very happy to be a supporter of, with donations from families and the club going directly to them over the two nights.

"A big thank you to all the volunteers and parents who help out every year. From all at Portarlington GAA Club, we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year," Anthony said.
