A love that bridged the atlantic ocean has been sealed in marriage for Laois GAA footballer Eoin Lowry and his USA based bride Niamh Smith, from Graiguecullen. More below photo gallery by Paul Dargan. Click purple arrows or NEXT to see images.
Eoin and Niamh Lowry got married in Killeshin Church on Thursday, April 4 before heading to Kilkea Castle to celebrate with their family and close friends.
Together with his groomsmen, brother Evan and Laois Teammate Evan O'Carroll, Eoin met Niamh at the altar with her bridesmaids, sister Aine, sister in law Katie, and best friend Emma Nolan who flew home from Vancouver as a surprise.
Niamh, who is an Engineer living in Philadelphia flew home just in time to see Eoin and fellow Laois teammates lift the Allianz League Div 4 cup on Croke Park only a few days earlier.
With Eoin teaching in St Mary’s CBS in Portlaoise, the two have been living the long distance relationship life for the last 1.5 years and Hoping to be back together in Philly in the coming months.
Honeymoon plans are currently on hold, with Niamh headed back to Philadelphia and Eoin preparing for the first round of Championship with Laois this coming weekend - but a road trip across America this summer is on the cards.
The newlyweds were extremely grateful to all of their family and friends who made the day so special, particularly to their parents Vera, Terry, Angela and John, and course to Paul Dargan for capturing memories they will have for life (and for making a camera-shy Eoin feeling as at ease as on the football pitch).
