Grand Slam winning hero Alison Miller was recently feted at a Civic Reception in her hounour held in Aras an Chontae.
The flying Portlaoise winger was one of the stars of the Six Nations Championship where the Irish Women’s team made history when they won the Grand Slam for the first ever time. The highlight of the campaign for Alison was her hat-trick of tries against England.
Since then Alsion has been part of the sevens set up which has perfomed well in a number of tournaments and could be bound for the Olympics in Rio. Recently she was in typical try scoring form at the Marbella Sevens running in five tries in total and helping Ireland to gain a fifth place ranking in Europe.
In attendance at the event were local dignitaries, Alison’s family and friends, her team-mates along with Ireland Women’s Team Manager Gemma Crowley. Alison was presented with a Certificate of Achievement and a piece of Waterford Crystal from Cllr Paul Mitchell, Chairman of Laois County Council.
