ESB crews are on the ground in Portlaoise to start repairs on a cable which snapped on Tuesday.
Part of the town's Bridge St is expected to be without power through to the evening at least due to repairs needed to a fallen cable.
An ESB emergency response team made the area safe with the help of Gardai.
Electricity was cut after a cable was snapped by a truck.
