A road closure in Mountmellick has been temporarily lifted to allow for Rás na mBán cyclists to pass through.
Ireland’s top female road racing cyclists will go wheel to wheel with riders from across Europe on the 104km third stage through the Slieve Bloom Mountains to Mountrath.
Stage 3 of Rás na mBan went underway with a ceremonial start from Laois County Council Áras An Chontae this morning at 11:10 am. The stage takes riders through Stradbally, Emo, Mountmellick, and Clonaslee before they take on the iconic climb “The Cut”.
Work has finally been completed on a major overhaul of Mountmellick water supply that caused significant disruption in the Laois town, particularly in September due to an over run in the works.
In a statement to the Leinster Express / Laois Live Uisce Éireann said it was pleased to announce the successful completion of essential water network upgrades in Mountmellick, adding that this marked a significant milestone for the town as part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Traffic problems were worsened because the N80 runs through Mountmellick, with the national traffic it brings already causing tailbacks regularly in the town.
