PICTURES: Massive clean-up underway as music fans depart Electric Picnic in Laois

Tents, camp chairs, and lots of bottles and cans are just a few of the things left at the Electric Picnic campsite in Stradbally this Monday afternoon.

The three-day festival in Laois ended on Sunday night, and a major cleanup operation of the site is now underway.

Campers are making their way home after a weekend of music and mud, with headliners such as Sombr, CMAT, Zara Larsson and Fontaines D.C. taking to the stage.

Acts including The Saw Doctors and Amble also performed during the festival which saw around 80,000 people flock to Stradbally.

The weather was wet and windy, yet warm for those in attendance, but the rain didn’t dampen spirits.

It has caused cars to get stuck, though, so tractors and farmers have been on standby to help remove them, Festival Director Melvin Benn has confirmed.

He has also been gearing up for next year’s Electric Picnic, stating that there will be no change to ticket prices or festival capacity.

A statement from organisers was released this morning regarding traffic management, with the period up until 4 pm now expected to be the busiest time to leave the camp.

“Electric Picnic are doing everything possible to reduce queuing, but there is only so much capacity on the roads,” it said.

Gardaí have been urging drivers to proceed with caution as there may be drink and drug drivers on the roads.

"Garda checkpoints will be in place over the course of the weekend to detect those driving while under the influence. Should a driver fail a roadside test, they will be arrested. A blood sample will be taken and should that sample show the presence of a substance or indicates a blood/alcohol level above the legal limit to drive, the person potentially faces a disqualification and fine,” a spokesperson said.

Partner pre-sale for Electric Picnic 2027 begin on Tuesday while loyalty and general sale begin on Friday, September 4.
