WATCH: Winds cause carnage as Electric Picnic clean-up continues
The weather continues to be a chaos causer at Electric Picnic as tents are being blown around the campsite
Winds have been causing carnage at the Electric Picnic campsite in Stradbally as the clean-up continues.
The three-day annual festival in Laois saw Fontaines D.C, CMAT, and Sombr take to the stage over the weekend.
The weather and rain meant performers were late to the stage, while today it is causing those cleaning up to be late leaving.
Tents have been blowing across the campsite all day, while tractors and farmers have been on standby to help those whose cars got stuck in mud.
“There is no shortage of farmers and tractors willing to help and we have additional farmers and tractors coming in to pull people out,” Melvin Benn, Festival Director, said.
“Be patient, that's the key thing. We will get you out, if it is a bit wet we will get you out. We have put additional trackways in different places. We have to be patient and people are. You don’t come to a festival in Ireland and not expect a little bit of rain,” he added.
He hoped to have the site cleared by 3 o’clock this afternoon.
The traffic is expected to be dying down around now (4pm) for those late to leave the campsite.
Gardaí released a traffic plan, as well as a warning to motorists who may be endgangered by drink and drug drivers.
"Garda checkpoints will be in place over the course of the weekend to detect those driving while under the influence. Should a driver fail a roadside test, they will be arrested. A blood sample will be taken and should that sample show the presence of a substance or indicates a blood/alcohol level above the legal limit to drive, the person potentially faces a disqualification and fine,” a spokesperson said.
