Portarlington remembers its World War I fallen on Armistice centenary

Towns around Laois marked the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

In Portarlington an Armistice Day ecumenical service of remembrance will take place on Friday November 9 at 8pm in St Paul’s, the French Church.

More than 100 men, either from Portarlington or with a connection to the town, died in the Great War. The service was described as an opportunity to remember them and the families they left behind.

Photographer Michael Scully covered the event for the Leinster Express.
