Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominated Irish movie The Banshees of Inisherin is coming to a beautifully restored vintage cinema in Laois next week.

The 1950s Balcony Cinema in Mountmellick Community Arts Centre will screen the Martin McDonagh film, starring Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell for one night on Wednesday, February 1 at 8pm.

On a remote island off the coast of Ireland, Pádraic is devastated when his buddy Colm suddenly puts an end to their lifelong friendship. With help from his sister and a troubled young islander, Pádraic sets out to repair the damaged relationship by any means necessary. However, as Colm's resolve only strengthens, he soon delivers an ultimatum that leads to shocking consequences.

Tickets are just €5 and include a cup of tea or coffee and even biscuits, which you can take into the small theatre and enjoy as you watch.

The tiny upstairs cinema is run by the local community, and shows a film every Wednesday night.

The Banshees of Inisherin has received 9 Academy Awards nominations, including nominations for actors Brendan Gleeson, Colin Farrell, Kerry Condon, Barry Keoghan and Director, Martin McDonagh. Oscars night is March 12.
