New portrait of Laois poet unveiled for heritage week

A portrait of the Camross poet Patrick Ryan has been unveiled in the village's local landmark The Poets Cottage. 


Artist Peter Dooley was commissioned to produce the portrait to celebrate the life and times of Patrick Ryan who lived in Camross from 1750 - 1825. CONTINUE READING BELOW PHOTO

The Poets Cottage is currently a community building and there are plans in place to renovate and develop its tourism potential. It was originally built as a Millennium Heritage Project by the local Fas team.

A reception to launch the portrait was held during Heritage Week on Friday August 23 and photographer Alf Harvey was there to capture the event.
