Upcoming seminar explores fascinating heritage of Laois

Laois Heritage Society are excited to host their upcoming annual seminar in the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise.

Find out all about heritage-related activities happening in Laois in 2025 with a morning of interesting talks and discussion at this year's Laois Heritage Seminar.

"Join us for our annual Laois Heritage Seminar where we take a look back at the heritage-related activites, events, and projects that took place in Laois in 2025," organisers said.

"With a number of interesting talks and videos, this event is always a very enjoyable morning for anyone interested in Laois Heritage."

Starting at 10am, attendees will be met with tea and coffee, followed by opening speeches.

    The first talk at 10:50am will be a Summary of Heritage Activities in Laois this past year, presented by Thomas Carolan, Heritage Officer.

    From 11:20am to 11:30am, a variety of videos documenting Laois Heritage will be shown.

    The second talk of the day will begin at 11:30am, focusing on the archaeology works from The Rock of Dunamase Carpark Project. This talk will run until 12 noon, led by Colm Flynn of Horizon Archaeology.

    The third talk will examine the traditional cobbling and paving of Laois, led by James Byrne of Southgate Associates.

    Laois Heritage Society holds monthly talks relating to historical events and heritage of Laois.
