Laois dogs waiting to go off leash in county's first dog park
Laois dogs are still waiting to go off leash in their own special dog park.
A park is in the works, and now an area has been selected by Laois County Council.
Last September, the council had announced that a park should be opened by June 2023.
An update was given in December, after Cllr Noel Tuohy asked what progress has been made, during the Portlaoise Municipal District December meeting.
"We are looking into an area in the Triogue Linear Park. Plans will be available early in the New Year," engineer Wes Wilkinson said.
Laois County Council had said last September that finding the right site would be one of the first jobs for a new parks officer.
"The Executive Parks & Landscape Officer will be starting in Laois County Council in early September and will examine possible locations for a dog park in Q4 (winter) with a view to putting in place by end of Q2 2023," Mr Wilkinson had said at the time.
Off-leash dog parks have been opened across Dublin as well as in Kildare, Limerick, Westmeath, Wicklow, Wexford and Cork.
