Trish and Dominic from Rafters Restaurant on their first and last days in business at Laois Shopping Centre.
Two high profile Laois restaurants have closed down within weeks of each other this January.
In early January, Seve's Bar & Restaurant in the five star Killenard Golf and Spa Resort shocked staff and customers with their announcement.
Last Friday, January 13, a busy family restaurant in Laois Shopping Centre did the same.
Rafters had been serving customers for 12 years. However they intend to keep doing so but without a restaurant.
Proprietors Trish and Dominic have thanked everyone who supported them over the dozen years.
"Rafters commenced trading in Laois Shopping on Dec 16th 2011. The cafe ran very successfully for many years. This would not have been possible without our hard-working staff. A huge thank you to all the management and staff of Rafters.
"Another huge shout out to all our customers who supported our business, without you guys we would not have remained in business for so long, so thank you so much for your loyal support and finally to the Management and staff of Laois Shopping Centre who were always there to assist and support us when ever they were required, we will miss you guys very much."
They plan to keep working behind the scenes in catering.
"Our cafe has now closed but our event business is open and taking bookings for all private and corporate events. Confirmation, communion, parties etc. We may be contacted at info@rafterscafe.ie for bookings or any other queries.
Rafter shared a poignant pair of photos showing the first cup of coffee in Rafters enjoyed by Trish on December 16 2011, and the final cup by Dominic on Jan Friday 13 2023.
Seve's had made their announcement on January 4.
"After a very challenging year with many hurdles to overcome, we have taken the decision to close Seve's Bar & Restaurant.
"We have so many happy memories during our time in The Heritage Golf Resort, Killenard. The people we have met have been amazing, including our loyal customers, suppliers, local businesses, Laois visitors, and our incredible team (past and present)!
"Sincere gratitude goes out to everyone who has been part of Seve's story for the past year and nine months. We are very sad to say goodbye, and thank you all for the beautiful memories," the restaurant said.
Seve's also said that their gift vouchers can be redeemed in Portlaoise restaurant Lilly's Bar & Kitchen.
