Council to publish Laois golf brochure to attract Ryder Cup golfing tourism

Laois County Council to produce golf tourism brochure showcasing county’s seven golf clubs
A big drive is on to attract International golf tourism to Laois.
Laois County Council has begun work to compile the county’s first dedicated golf brochure, aimed at attracting golfing tourists in the lead-up to the 2027 Ryder Cup.
The council says that all golf clubs in the county have been invited to participate, with initial engagement already underway around photography and content.
The project is aimed at bringing the County's individual golf offerings together as part of a more coordinated visitor proposition.
“Laois County Council is developing the county's first dedicated golf brochure to showcase the range of golf clubs, courses and facilities available throughout Laois,” a council spokesperson told the Leinster Express / Laois Live.
“The brochure aims to position Laois as an attractive golfing destination, particularly in the lead-up to the 2027 Ryder Cup.
“Golf attracts a broad demographic, from teenagers and young adults taking up the sport to established golfers and retirees, making it an important market for tourism growth,” the spokesperson said.
The brochure will have a positive knock on effect for the Laois hospitality industry they say.
“Golf has the potential to deliver significant economic benefits through increased visitor spending on accommodation, hospitality, retail and local attractions.
“The brochure will also encourage golfers to explore the wider tourism offering across Laois and extend their stay here,” Laois County Council adds.
They declined to confirm the budget for the brochure project.
Laois has seven 18-hole golf courses to choose from.
The county’s best known is the modern course designed by Seve Ballesteros in the Heritage Killenard Golf & Spa resort which also offers a second 9-hole par 3 course.
The Heath Golf Club course is an inland links experience on the Great Heath near Portlaoise, and is the county’s oldest golf course, built in 1981.
Laois’ other 18 hole courses are in Abbeyleix, Mountrath, Portarlington, Rathdowney, and Portlaoise.
Laois County Council has also come on board as a sponsor of the 2027 'Champion of Champions' European Championship, to take place at the Heritage Golf Resort from March 20 to April 1 2027. The Championship will bring together some of the world’s most talented junior golfers, representing over 30 countries.
