Laois sends thousands of boxes filled with hope for Christmas

Laois ICA members have helped process thousands of boxes donated by Laois children

Thousands of shoeboxes from Laois are set to make Christmas brighter this year for children in Albania, a country that is not as as well off as Ireland.

Laois ICA guilds were busy during November gathering and preparing the boxes donated by children in schools around Laois for 2022 edition of Team Hope project.

Anne Payne, is an ICA Portlaoise secretary, was involved. She said the boxes were gathered from around the county and prepared for shipment in the old Xtravision shop in Portlaoise.

“There were over 3000 boxes checked - these boxes come from schools and communities around the county. This year the boxes are going to Albania. Several Guilds participated, Borris in Ossory, Spink Guild and Portlaoise Guild.

“Borris-in-Ossory Guild once again supported the Shoe Box appeal and made up 72 boxes. Marie Kelly brought all the boxes to Portlaoise in her jeep however that wasn't all Helen Kavanagh filled up 42 boxes herself so in total 114 boxes were delivered from Borris-in-Ossory Guild.

“There were also over 270 boxes taken already from Borris-in-Ossory by Helen which includes boxes from two schools and the Local Youth Club. What a truly massive effort from Helen and the Guild. Many Congratulations to all involved,” said Anne.

The Spink Guild made up 30 shoe boxes. Lots of boxes from schools in Portlaoise were also processed.

Team Hope’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal delivers gifts straight into the hands of children affected by poverty. Often these shoeboxes are the only gift that a child will receive at Christmas bring incredible joy to children.
