Laois councillors say thank you to Christmas essential workers
All the essential frontline workers in Laois who will be giving up their family time this Christmas, have been offered a big thank you by local councillors.
Cllr Noel Tuohy from the Portlaoise Municipal District, tabled a motion at their December meeting, where he asked the council to offer its thanks to every frontline worker who will work over the Christmas.
"It is appropriate and right that we once again remember those who work over the holiday season and forfeit time with their family, friends and other celebrations to keep essential services up and running and who are often forgotten and taken for granted.
"At this end of year we should say thank you to all these pepole and send our best wishes and gratitude," he said.
Cllr John Joe Fennelly seconded.
"They have been through so much for the last three years on the frontline. Working when most of us are sitting in front of the fire. These people are special, they go above and beyond," he said.
Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald said that all the Portlaoise MD councillors agreed with the motion.
