Gardai clocked a car driving at 197 kph in Laois on Easter Sunday.
“Laois Roads Policing Unit conducting speed enforcement checks on the M7 this afternoon stopped this vehicle after it was detected travelling at 197kph,” Gardai said.
“The driver was arrested and has been charged to appear before Portlaoise District Court,” they added.
In a separate incident, Gardai in Offaly detected a car fitted with a space saver tyre being driven at 174kph in 100km zone.
Space saver tyres, which are generally fitted for temporary use while a puncture is being repaired, are not recommended to be used at speeds above 80kmh.

“Offaly Roads Policing Unit detected a car speeding. 174km per hr in a 100 zone. Car also fitted with a space saver tyre . Driver arrested. Charged with dangerous driving,” Gardai said.
