A shop assistant admitted stealing from Tesco in Laois. 

Tatiana Covas, 43, of 10 Lynden Court, Portlaoise admitted stealing items valued at €161.78 from Tesco in Laois Shopping Centre, Portlaoise on February 21, 2024. 

Garda Sgt JJ Kirby said the accused was observed on CCTV placing items in her bag and leaving the store. He said all of the property was recovered in saleable condition. He said she had no previous convictions. 

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client worked as a shop assistant. She asked the court to take into account her early plea and the fact that all the items were recovered. 

Judge Nicola Andrews said she would apply the probation act on condition that the woman paid €200 to the court poor box. She adjourned the matter to April 15 for proof of payment.
