Portlaoise District Court
A man who drank whiskey urinated on his own trousers and abused gardaí, a court was told.
Eduard Cazan, (50), of 10 Ballymorris Manor, Portlaoise Road, Portarlington, was accused of being intoxicated and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour on the Portlaoise Road, Portarlington on September 7, 2024.
Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes told a sitting of Portlaoise District Court that gardai discovered the man “in an intoxicated state. He had urinated on his trousers” and when approached he became abusive.
He said the man had been “very embarrassed and apologetic” on his release and he had apologised multiple times to gardaí.
Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said his client had been drinking whiskey and was “completely embarrassed” about the incident. “He realises he needs to stop drinking,” he said. The man had a letter of apology for the prosecuting garda, he added.
Judge Susan Fay asked Mr Fitzgerald if his client had any money.
Mr Fitzgerald said the man was in receipt of disability but if he was given time he would be able to come up with some money.
Judge Fay said she would apply the probation act if the man had €100 to donate to the court poor box by December 15. She said the default if he didn’t pay was a conviction and fine of €250.
