A teenager appeared in court accused of damaging a garda car in Portlaoise.

Ashton Hurley (19) of 58 Hillview Drive, Knockmay, Portlaoise, is accused of denting the front right door of a garda patrol car and obstruction at Brady’s Garage, Portlaoise on August 20, 2026.

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said the DPP had directed summary disposal meaning the case would remain in the district court. Resquesting disclosure, she said the offence was alleged to have occurred in the forecourt of a garage and asked if there was any CCTV.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said that would depend on where the cameras were facing in the garage.

Judge Andrew Gubbins ordered disclosure, granted legal aid and put the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on October 12 for a plea or date for hearing.
